James H. Ames, 75, of Van Buren, AR, died Friday, June 22, 2012. He was born April 4, 1937, in Catcher Community, AR. He served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps, and 21 years with the U.S. Air Force. He is a member of the Air Force Sergeant Association and Marine Corp Association. He was a retired golf course mechanic. He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Ames, and a grandson, Michael Higgins.
He is survived by his wife, Stella of the home; four daughters, Patricia Ames of Van Buren, Pam Knight, Laura Griffin and Cissie Hogue all of Fort Smith; two sons, Joseph Ames of Van Buren, and Christopher Faust of Shady Point, OK; ten grandchildren, Chad Knight, Dylan Higgins, James Michael Ames, Sierra Faust, Grant Higgins, Hailey Hogue, Hannah Hogue, Elizabeth Faust, Harper Hogue, and Morgan Faust; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 12:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren, AR with burial at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Ames, Herbie Ames, Steve Griffin, Gary Hogue, Chad Knight, and Dylan Higgins. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Woodruff, Grant Higgins, and Tommy Council.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
