James W. Coggeshall, age 97, of Acushnet, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of the late Anita (Souliere) Coggeshall.
Born in Dartmouth, a son of the late George and Lillian (Coleman) Coggeshall, he was a lifelong area resident.
A Veteran of the United States Army he served during World War II as Private First Class. He worked in the Maintenance Department at St. Luke's Hospital for many years before retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in New Bedford where he was a collector and was a member of the Mount Carmel Seniors.
He was a Master of the Fairhaven Grange until its closing and held memberships at other local granges. Mr. Coggeshall was an avid gardener.
The family would like to thank the staff at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for their great care and patience.
He is survived by two daughters: Louise Coggeshall of Acushnet, and Norma Roderiques of New Bedford, one granddaughter: Sara L. Roderiques of Fall River, one niece and several nephews. He was brother of the late George Coggeshall, Myra Glesner, and Etta Chace.
His Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 8:30AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30AM in St. Mary's Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
