James Nicolas Doyle Jr “Nick” passed away on December 19, 2012 while living in Conway, South Carolina with his step-son, Jimmy Thompson. He moved to South Carolina on January 30, 2011. Previously, his home was in Louisville, Kentucky for many years.
He was born in Leeds, Massachusetts on February 1, 1925, a son of the late James N. Doyle Sr. and Mary C. Doyle. Also, preceding him in death is his wife, Ester L. Doyle; a son Billy Doyle; a brother, Thomas Doyle; two sisters Barbara Doyle Grant and Norma Doyle Wujciak.
Mr. Doyle entered into the U.S. Army in May of 1943. He served twenty-four years active duty and earned many metals and awards including The Presidential Commendation, The Bronze Star, The Combat Infantry Badge, and the Army Commendation Medal. He was a WWII veteran, also serving in the Korean and Vietnam Conflict. Being bilingual, Mr. Doyle had numerous assignments in the United States and was on Special Assignments which often required him to be out of the country. He loved serving his country.
Mr. Doyle is survived by his two brothers, Edward F. Doyle (Shirley) of Florence Massachusetts and Robert D. Doyle (Peggy) of North Hampton Massachusetts and their children; a step-son James R. Thompson Sr. (Hilda) of Conway, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Tonya Basham (Scott), Nancy Ashmore and Walker Thompson (Carrie) of Kentucky, James R. Thompson Jr. (Susan) of Ft. Mills, S.C. Tammy Hardee (Tommy) and Shonda Kirton (Andy) of Conway S.C.; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Doyle’s funeral service will be held at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 8519 Preston Highway, Okolona on December 22, 2012 at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 9-10 the morning of the service.
