James J. Matowik, 81, of Sparta, New Jersey, passed away on February 1, 2013 at his residence. James was born in New York City and has been a resident of Sparta since 1955. He was a 1949 graduate of Blairstown High School in Blairstown, NJ and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as a computer programmer for Bell Laboratories in Whippany for 30 years, retiring in 1984. James was a lover of classical music, he was an avid chess player and loved painting and gardening. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Charlotte (nee Page) Matowik. James is the devoted father of Deena Matowik of Boston; Ellen Matowik Russell and her husband Peter of New York City; James Matowik Jr. and his wife Sandra of Ogdensburg, NJ and Steven Matowik and his wife Karen of Yuma, AZ. He is also survived by his brother John C. Matowik and his wife Dorothy of Lady Lake, Florida and beloved grandchildren Avery, Jacob and Daniel and great-grandchildren Sophi and Siena.
