James A. Milne Sr., 85, of Glace Bay, passed away on March 4, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Seaton and Blanche Milne.
For the past five years, Jim was a resident of the Veterans wing at Taigh Na Mara, Main Street, Glace Bay.
Jim was owner and operator of Milne's IGA, Main Street, Glace Bay, for over 45 years. He was an avid boater and spent many days on the Mira River and the Bras d'Or Lake. He opened Ingonish IGA in 1978 after spending many happy summers at the Point.
Always remembered for his generosity and love of life, Jim will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Terry) Power, Sydney, Marguerite (Kevin) Bearnes, Halifax, Carol Milne (Fred Neville), Glace Bay; sons, James A. 'Brother' Milne, Ingonish, and Allister Milne, Ingonish; sister, Carol Greek, Toronto; sisters-in-law, Catto McConnell and Florence Janbroers; brother-in-law, Allister (Theresa) McMullen; grandchildren, Laura, Emily, Christine and Alex; great-grandchild, Brooklyn; step-grandchildren, Kyle, Brennan and Dylan. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Marg, his brothers, Seaton 'Rusty' and Roy.
Visitation for the late James A. Milne Sr. will be held in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St. on Wednesday, March 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in Knox United Church on Thursday, March 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Finlayson officiating with burial in Forest Haven Memorial Garden at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of one's choice.
