James B. "Cotton" Parten, of Atlanta, GA, was called home on January 17, 2013. Cotton was a long time Atlanta resident who retired from a long career in the insurance business where he worked for several large carriers before presiding over his own agency. Cotton and Betty, his wife of 67 years, moved to Atlanta after WWII. Cotton served in the 8th Air Force 351st Bomb group, flew 26 missions and was awarded the Medal of Honor, Purple Heart and the Air Force Cross. He had many interests, was active in Kiwanis, numerous insurance industry organizations, the Land O' Lakes Home Owners Association and was a founding member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club. Cotton is survived by his wife, Betty Parten; son, Jay Parten and his wife Robin; Aunt, Sarah Lucas and cousin, Edyth Anderson. A memorial service will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on January 21 at 11:00 am with burial following at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cotton's name to the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (www.prumc.org).
