Janice W. Alleman, 90, wife, mother, teacher, friend, died suddenly on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Manor Care in Carlisle. Daughter of Kathryn and Harry Weibley, she was born on August 22, 1921, on her grandparent's farm in Waynesboro, PA. She had a younger sister, Joyce Riethmiller (deceased). A lifelong Harrisburg area resident, she lived in Greenlane Farms in Camp Hill for 40 years. She graduated from John Harris High School, Gettysburg College, and did graduate work at Cornell University. Janice was married to her high school sweetheart, Harry J. Alleman (deceased) for 44 years. A born teacher, she taught Social Studies at Swatara High School for 2 years, nursery school for 6 years, and primary grades in the Harrisburg School District for 18 years. A longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, she taught Bible School and Sunday school to children and adults for over 30 years. In her retirement, she volunteered for 15 years as a remedial teaching assistant at Highland Elementary School near her home. She loved to be in the presence of young children, those of her family and others. From her teaching days to her last years, her eyes sparkled when she interacted with little ones. Known for her stories and quick quips, Janice amused her friends, care-givers and family. She enjoyed crafting gifts for friends and attending parties with her husband and their Masonic friends. She will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors: Daughter, Diane Keister and her husband Irvin of Allentown and son Harry J. Alleman, III and his wife, Judi, grandchildren, Denel Keister Bingel, Drew Keister and Justin Alleman, and four great-granddaughters.
Services: Thursday, June 21, 2012, Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St. Camp Hill, calling hour will be held from 11:00-12:00 AM with services at 12:00, Pastor Karin Pejack officiating. Interment will be at Rolling Green Memorial Park.
