Jeff Travis Stanfield

May 11, 1919 - April 12, 2012
STANFIELD, Jeff Travis, age 92; April 12, 2012, of Hermitage TN. Survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Geraldine, sons Henry (wife Jane), Luther (fiancé Mary), Charles, and ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Jeff was a member of the Tom Baptist Church in Oklahoma. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and the US Air Force in the Korean War as a radio operator and gunner on the following aircraft: B-25, B-17, C-47, C-82, C-119, SA-10(PBY), and SA-16. He flew 26 bombing missions in WWII and 56 Air Sea rescue missions over enemy territory in Korea, at times under hostile fire. Among other awards and decorations, he received the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters and three Bronze Stars. Retiring from the Air Force after 20 years of service, he worked for the US Postal Service for 14 years as a mail carrier in Smyrna, TN, and later as a security guard for the Idabel, OK High School. In his retirement he was an avid golfer and fisherman. He also became a 33rd Degree Freemason, serving as treasurer of Goodwater Lodge 148 in Haworth, OK. In recognition of his service to the community of Haworth, he was awarded the Keys to the City and was named Senior Citizen of the Year. He and Geraldine moved to McKendree Village in Hermitage, TN, where they lived among many friends from 2000 to the present. Services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday, April 15th, at Hermitage Funeral Home with Chaplin Seth Rone officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1pm until time of service, also at Hermitage Funeral Home (615-889-0361). Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Shriners to support their efforts to serve sick and injured children.
