Jennie Lee Aitkenhead, 71, of Spring Lake, died Thursday, January 5, 2012. Born in Neptune, she lived in Spring Lake for most of her life.
Mrs. Aitkenhead was a teacher for over 25 years before retiring from Monmouth Adult Education Commission in Eatontown in 2000. She was a member of the Church Preservation Committee of Holy Trinity Church, the Garden Club and the Bath & Tennis Club, all of Spring Lake. Mrs. Aitkenhead was also a mentor in the Mountz Uniting Seniors and Students program at the elementary school in Spring Lake.
Mrs. Aitkenhead was predeceased by her husband Rennie in 2005 and her brother James Edwards in 2007. She is survived by two sons, David A. and his wife Annette of Mendham, and James A. of Spring Lake; two daughters, Jennie Lee O'Donnell and her husband Kevin of Bermuda, and Elizabeth A. McKnight and her husband James of Atlantic Highlands; one brother, David Edwards of Maine; and seven grandchildren: Emma, Mollie, Hailey, Tristan, Sydney, Ian and Katherine.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. Funeral services will held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10am at Holy Trinity Church in Spring Lake. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery in Tennent, NJ.
