Jennie Burnett Allen, 82, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Mrs. Allen was born on March 3, 1928 to John Wesley and Zena Mae Burnett in Kirksville, Missouri. She grew up in Spindletop, graduated from South Park High School in 1945 and worked as a switchboard operator at the telephone company before marrying Jay Boyd Allen, Jr. on Valentines Day 1947.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, three sisters, two nephews and one son, R.J. Allen.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Jay Boyd Allen, Jr. of Lumberton, her sons Richard John Allen and wife Brenda of Lumberton, Jay Boyd Allen III and wife Sandra of Beaumont; her daughters, Sharon Litchfield and husband Craig of Beaumont and Patricia Allen of Lumberton; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 6 nephews and 1 niece.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Doug Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Christopher M. Allen, Jay Boyd Allen IV, Charlie Matula, Christopher A. Allen, Jay Swearingen and Walter Sikes.
