Retired US Army SFC Jimmy K. Godbey Sr., 78, of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
Jimmy was born on Dec. 22, 1934, in Wickham, W.Va. He was the son of the late Basil and Leona Shrewsbury Godbey.
He served in the U.S. Army and retired after 21 years of service. Upon retirement from his military service, he was employed at Brock Cabinets. He retired from Brock Cabinets after 30 years.
Jimmy was a good husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother. He met and later married his sweetheart on Jan. 29, 1957.
He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Dorothy Godbey; a son, Jinny K. Godbey Jr. of Fayetteville; a daughter, and Alice McKee of Wade. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and siblings, Alice Matusik, Homer B. Godbey, Emilene Columbo and Mary Sue Godbey.
A visitation was held at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, from 6 to 8p.m.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Reeves Funeral Home chapel. Interment with military honors followed in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Jimmy was greatly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
