John Buckman, 88 passed away on August 23, 2013. Memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 East 1st Street in Ankeny. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Oelwein, IA.
John was born to Eunice (Basham) and Harvie Buckman on November 22, 1924 in Hazelton, IA where he attended country school. He later graduated from high school in Aurora, IA and attending college in Dubuque.
John married Kathleen Molloy (Kay) in 1952. They moved to Des Moines and later to Ankeny where they lived for 50 years. John worked for Graybar Electric retiring after 35 years. He served his country in the Merchant Marines and then the Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W, was a master gardener for 10 years, and faithful member at the Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church.
John will be greatly missed by his son, Tom Yancy (Chris); grandson, Patrick Yancy (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Brendan; brother, Dale; sister, Miriam; many nieces and nephews; and his many friends and buddies at McDonald's.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; son, Terry; brother, Robert and his parents.
