John R. Burgoon, 85, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Holy Spirit Hospital. He was a resident of the Bethany Village West – Maplewood retirement community.
He was born April 30, 1928 in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Carroll and Helen (Watson) Burgoon. John joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after high school and served from 1946 to 1949, including a tour of duty in Tsing Tao, China. He was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA , Class of 1953. Prior to retirement he was employed in the Pharmaceutical Industry for over 40 years.
He is survived by his three children: Scott Burgoon and wife Connie, Dr. Deborah Donohue and husband Joseph, Charles Burgoon and fiancee Janet Kumpf. He also had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7530, and the American Legion among others.
He will be interred at a private family service at the Fort Indian Gap National Military Cemetery. Memorial services will be conducted 10:30 am, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Bethany Village East, All Purpose Room, Mechanicsburg.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation in memory of John Burgoon. Semper Fi and he will be missed
