John Giffels of Marshall, Michigan
Born on June 10, 1952 to Robert and Margaret (Erazmus) Giffels in Toledo, Ohio.
He died on November 4, 2013 in Battle Creek after a long battle with his disease
of Multiple System Atrophy. John graduated from Hackett High School in Kalamazoo,
went on to receive a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan.
He then went on to Wayne State Law School. He married his wife Theresa Piske
in 1991. John had a private law practice for several years, then became an attorney
for State Farm Insurance of many years and went back in to private practice for a
couple of years where he ended his career. John enjoyed golfing, fishing and any
college sports especially the ones with the Maize and Blue! He also liked spending
time in the U.P. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Theresa (Piske) Giffels;
daughter, Molly Giffels; son, Brian Giffels; father, Robert Giffels; brothers and sisters,
Mark (Tricia Scott) Giffels, Robert (Maria Freese) Giffels, Carrie Giffels, Edward (Nancy)
Giffels, James Giffels and Elizabeth (Dennis Darnoi) Giffels. Eleven nieces and nephews;
two great-nieces. John was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Giffels.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the
J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Pastor
Brian Lutz of Heartland Hospice officiating. The family will receive friends from
1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Sunday.
