John "Jay" H. Higgins, Jr. on November 26, 2013. Beloved son of John H. Higgins, Sr. (Carolyn) and the late Lottie (Tita) Villanueva Higgins. Beloved father of Angela and Christian Higgins and the late Mary (Katie) Higgins. Brother Karen Chester, Terri Higgins and the late Steven Higgins. Grandfather of Havanna Rex, Madison and Kaeson Higgins. Longtime companion of Amanda. Former husband of Catherine Downs. Also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Age 53, native of New Orleans and a resident of River Ridge, La. John was a former sous chef at Commander's Palace, Arnaud's, Katie's and others. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Catholic Memorial Service at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Inurnment private. Condolences may be expressed online at www.tharpsontheimer.com.

I had the pleasure of knowing John for many years while at Universal Services and Universal Sodexo. We kept in touch on FB while he was working offshore for Sonoco. My heart goes out to Mr. Higgins, Sr. and to the entire Higgins family. What a great loss for such a talented man. He now watching over his loving family and will forever be carried in your hearts and many who knew him. Rest in peace, John.

I knew John for a number of years. I was his pilot. He was a fine cook who always gave his best. Through good times and bad he was always a caring friend and devoted to his family. Amanda, I grieve with you. John, You Will Be Missed!
