John P. Mastin – an 86 year-old lifelong resident of Mobile passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Mr. Mastin retired from the merchant marines as a navigator after 40 years of service including service during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. A longtime Mason, he was a member of Howard Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Abba Temple Shrine. Mr. Mastin was preceded in death by his parents, John G. Mastin and Janie A. Mastin; brothers, Ferrell Mastin and Harvey Mastin; sisters, Janie Callihan, Merble Rogers, and Lora Golmitz; and grandson, Blake Purdy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Dorothy Mastin; daughter, Beth Hawkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services and entombment will be held from the mausoleum at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Friday, February 15, 2013, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
