John G. McFarland, 94, or rural Allendale died Friday afternoon at Lawrence County Health Center. He was born June 6, 1918, in Wabash County, Illinois to Oscar McFarland and Mabel Lutz McFarland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Baum and Lucille Wirth, and his wife of forty years Laverna McFarland.
He is survived by daughters Jenny Jones and husband Bill of Bridgeport, Illinois, Alberta Bemis and husband Jim of Conway, Arkansas, son David McFarland of Evansville, Indiana, and stepson Larry Pulleyblank and wife Becky of Lawrenceville, Illinois. He is also survived by six grandsons, a grand daughter, seven great-grandchildren, and sister Mildred Litherland. Also surviving are his first wife, Jeane Mayhall, two nieces and one nephew.
He was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator on the railroad. A veteran of World War II where he was in the field artillery in New Zealand and the Phillipines, he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #947 in St. Francisville, Illinois for over 50 years.
Services for John G. McFarland will be Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 11AM at the Ingram Funeral Home in Allendale, Illinois, with visitation one hour before the services. Burial will follow at the Allendale Cemetery.
