Josef E. Garcia

September 21, 1948 - December 10, 2009
Josef Eddie Garcia, age 61, went peacefully to be with our Lord on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009.

Joe was born Sept. 21, 1948 in Badtolz, Germany. He resided in Ventura County all of his life. He graduated from Oxnard High School in 1966, where he began his career at Pt. Mugu in the student work experience program. He served in the U.S. Army as a construction engineer. He was stationed in Long Binh Vietnam for two tours of duty. He then was employed at Pt. Mugu in public works for 37 years.

He retired at 54 years old and enjoyed spending time with family and chauffeuring his grandchildren to school , sports, and movie sets. He enjoyed fishing with his Dark Kings, trips to Las Vegas, vacationing and cooking. He was a 50's -70's music encyclopedia. He collected videos then would donate them to soldiers overseas when he was done with them. He was a living McGyver, he could repair anything.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Francisco and Cruz Garcia, Alois Kreutz and Anna and Michael Conte, parents; Fernando C. and Emilie K. Garcia. He is survived by his wife Mary L. Garcia, brother Fernie Garcia, wife Meg, sons Eric Garcia of Texas, Richard Solano of Ventura, daughters Resha May and Sally Winter of Ventura, Lizzie Hoyle of Chicago, Ill, 14 grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 15, followed by a memorial service, at the James A. Reardon Mortuary, 511 North A St. Oxnard. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday Dec. 16, at the James A. Reardon Mortuary. Burial will be held after at the Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St., Oxnard.
