Joseph Peter Ancmon, 89, of Union, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, the last survivor of the family of seven children of Julius and Anna. His siblings were Elizabeth, Julius, Anna, Mary, Michael, and Robert. His first remembrances were living in a house with an exterior toilet, sleeping arrangements, playing and getting a bloody nose, the neighbors, and the city dump. Later he enjoyed Scrabble and pinochle with a glass of beer.
Joseph was born in Newark; graduated East Side HS; worked at Worthington Pump Corp.; served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII as an airplane engine and frame mechanic; was a member of the Carpenters Local for 65 years and construction superintendent for A. Lowe Co.; belonged to the Union Elks and Hillside Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 12th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. Funeral mass will be held Monday August 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, Union. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial, Wrightstown, NJ.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Elsa of 60 years. He was the devoted father of Marguerite Hawkins, Joseph Paul, and Lisa and Glenn Wilson, and grandfather of Leighanne, Grace, Luke, and Joseph Patrick.
