Joseph Caruso, 72, of Meiers Corners, an independent produce wholesaler who enjoyed sports, died Thursday at home.
Mr. Caruso was born and raised in Freeport, L.I., and graduated from Freeport High School.
He lived in Brooklyn before settling in Meiers Corners in 1989.
He worked for 15 years as an independent produce wholesaler.
According to his family, he was a generous man and an avid golfer who enjoyed all sports.
Mr. Caruso was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
He is survived his wife of 41 years, the former Phyllis Zampello; two sons, John and Joseph; his stepmother, Bertha Caruso; two brothers, John and Patrick, and a sister, Betty Sardone.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
