JOSEPH HENRY DUFFIELD Joseph Henry Duffield passed away on April 18, 2013 at the age of 93. Joseph was born May 21, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to Marion and Harry Duffield, their only beloved child. In 1939 Joe enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served as a bombardier and navigator during WWII. In 1944, his B24 bomber was shot down over Italy, he survived the parachute landing only to be captured and taken to Stalag Luft III where he was a prisoner until the end of the war in 1945. Upon his return to Philadelphia, Joe met Pauline Simcoe, they were married 1946 and raised five children. In 1948 Joseph re-enlisted in the US Air Force. Joe and Pauline were stationed in Porto Rico, Florida, and Illinois. In 1959 they were relocated to March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. Joseph retired from the Air Force in 1965 as Chief Master Sergeant. He graduated in 1968 from Chapman University. In 1971 they moved to Palm Desert where Joseph worked for the US Department of Veteran Affairs. They returned to Riverside in 1977 where he retired in 1981. He taught business and management classes at Riverside City College in the evenings. In 2005 they moved to Laguna Woods. Joseph was a devout Catholic, loving and devoted husband, and father who will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his wife Pauline of 67 years of marriage; sons Joseph Jr., Paul, James (Jane), and Mark; daughter Kathleen Wiesinger (Rudy); 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral mass will be held at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Riverside, CA on Wednesday April 24th, at 10:00 am. 11:45 am graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joseph to the organization of your choice or Memorial Honor Detail at Riverside National Cemetery.
