Josephine Grant Hucks Cummings, "Granny Jo", 80, of Hudson, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born March 6, 1932 in Swann County, she was the daughter of the late John Weldon Grant and Sally Southards Grant.
Mrs. Cummings worked as the front desk clerk with Days Inn and was a member of Joyceton Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 3 infant siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny Hucks of Hudson; daughters, Debbie Poteat and son-in-law Billy, of Hickory and Lisa Oxford of Hudson; a special son-in-law, Scott Oxford of Hudson; and one sister, Margie Dyson and husband Lloyd of Lenoir. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Ryan Oxford, Stacy Oxford, Chris Cooke, Brian Cooke, Alicia Procarione and husband Shawn, Chase Hucks, Brett Poteat, Robbie Poteat of Ohio, and Bailey Poteat of New York; one great-grandchild, Jace Parker Cooke, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm at Pendry's Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Pendry's Chapel with the Rev. Dean Morgan and the Rev. E.B. Freeman officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
