June Marie Toye Ghergich, entered peacefully into eternal life in the comfort of her own home in the presence of family and friends on Monday, February 4, 2013at 6:44 pm. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Ghergich was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 42 years.
She was a member of the Saint Anthony of Padua Parish while raising her children and later became a parishioner of Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church. Mrs. Ghergich was affectionately called Mama June by both family and friends. She loved people and most especially children. If you needed a prom dress, cheer leader outfit, costume, or shredded shorts sewn together she was the gal to see. Her baking skills were in constant demand. For years she baked numerous confections for her son's camp in Gueydan. The guys would call her son to make sure their favorite was among the many baked items. She was always in the kitchen baking yeast rolls, making designer cakes, birthday cakes, or her own famous brownie. She was a Girl Scout leader. She was a woman before her time, willing to travel with her four kids at night each summer to Waveland, MS where the children and sometimes the Girl Scouts enjoyed carefree summers. There was never a gathering of friends or family where she went the people there were not eager for her return. She was always happy, funny and had a good ear for listening. In her case whatever went in never came out. So, your confidence was always safe with her. June was a lover of words and a great story teller and an outstanding creative writer. If you needed a story, card, or invitation written, you just called her and in an instant she was calling you to pick it up. Those creative genes were passed on to several in the family. June was always able to take the ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary. She believed that any lemon could be made into lemonade. Mama June's cup was always half full and NEVER half empty. She was the wife of 66 years to the late Matthew S. Ghergich, III, and was the daughter of the late Paul William Toye and Nelle Irene Woodington Toye. She is survived by her children: Lynda Jean (Dominick F. Bonura), Jo-Ann Toye (Gilbert Ordoyne), Jami Marie Ghergich, and a son Matthew Stanislaus Ghergich, IV, husband Carrie M. Monnier, Grandchildren: Justin D. (Janis) Bonura, Jessica Jean Bonura Nail, Ashlee W. (Mark) Ancalade, Sasha M. Ordoyne, Ahryonne O. (Christopher) Volpi, Pelyr O.
