Katharine Broussard, 86, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in her residence.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Vinton and was a member of Welsh United Methodist Church. Katharine enjoyed doing geneology, birdwatching, gardening, and sewing. She loved spending time with her family and getting to meet her newest great-grandchild. Katharine was a 1943 graduate of Vinton High School.
Survivors include six children, Kirk Broussard, Royce Waid Broussard, Jr. and wife, Bridgette, Roycenda Renfrow and husband, Guy, Debra Broussard, Katharine A. Broussard, and Johnny Broussard and wife, Ada, all of Vinton; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Royce Waid "Chubby" Broussard, Sr; her parents, John Ferguson, Sr. and Ethel Hudson Ferguson; four brothers, Hugh, John Jr., James, and William Ferguson; and three sisters, Mary Alice Ferguson, Margaret Broussard, and Marjorie Ferguson.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, in Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. The Rev. Kathy Fitzhugh will officiate. Burial will be in Niblett's Bluff Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Laurelle Shirley, Crystle Sam, and the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their excellent care of Mrs. Broussard.
