Mrs. Katherline Haley Billingslea was the seventh of ten children born to the late Harrison Haley and Mrs. Clara Jane Haley. She was born in Marietta, GA on December 19, 1927.
Mrs. Billingslea accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church (founded by her grandfather Alexander Ray). She worked faithfully and was well known for her work of the church where she served in many capacities.
She received her education in the Marietta public school system. She graduated from Perkinson High School, known today as Lemon St. High School. She furthered her education at Cobb Area Technical School where she completed a course in childhood development.
On June 21, 1946 she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Phillip Madison Billingslea. To their union was born three children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In the late 1970's Deacon and Mother Billingslea joined Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dodd where she served faithfully. During this time, Pilgrim had a very small membership and her tasks were very great. She resurrected the Youth Choir, served as secretary, and chaired many ministries and programs.
Mrs. Billingslea, along with other ladies of the church, though they were few in numbers, were known to prepare many large dinners for churches much larger than their own. Mrs. Billinsglea continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Linton Mitchell, Jr. and was affectionately known as "Mother Billingslea." She continued her work of the church until her health challenges became too great for her to attend church on a retular basis.
Mrs. Billingslea worked in the Lemon St. PTA and held many offices such as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, delegate to local and district meetings and grade mother. She was a volunteer for Kennestone Hospital, a member of a Women's Christian Organization where she served as Secretary. She enjoyed working as an Avon consultant and traveling.
Mother Katherline Billingslea leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Mrs. Barbara J. Redding of Marietta; two sons, Mr. Ronald P. (Betty) Billingslea of Mableton, and Mr. Scottie B. Billingslea of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Ruby A. Hill of Marietta; one brother, Mr. Charlie Haley of Marietta; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Haley of Marietta; God son & God daughter, Mr. & Mrs. David & Patricia A. Harris of Powder Springs; 14 grandchildren, 2 god grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 11:00 AM at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Marietta. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home. 770-432-0771. www.georgiamemorial park.com.
