Kennon Curtis Barnes, 74, of 4012 Soapstone Road, Ridgeway, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in the Select Specialty Unit in Greensboro, NC. He was born in Henry County, June 2, 1938 to Jerry Allen Barnes and Ellen Compton Barnes who preceded him in death.
Mr. Barnes served in the Army during the Cuban Crisis and he retired from American and Hooker Furniture Companies after 50 years of service. He was a bee keeper for 15 years and was a member of the O.K. Hunting Club and Woodmen of the World. He was also a member of Rich Acres Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Josephine (Jo) Slaydon Barnes of the home; two children, Kennon (Ken) Barnes, Jr. of Fieldale and Bonnie Sirt of Ridgeway; two grandchildren, Savanna Gwynn and M. Garrett Sirt of Ridgeway; one brother, Percy Cornell Barnes of Ridgeway.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Burial Park with Joe Terry officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the home.
