Kermit E. Baker 93, of Goffstown, NH and formerly of Newport and Keene, NH, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown.
He was born in West Brattleboro, Vermont, June 03, 1918, the son of John and Mildred (Alexander) Baker.
He was a World War II Air Force Veteran serving from June, 1942 until October, 1945.
During his career of over 37 years, Mr. Baker was the proprietor of the Newport Shoe Store in Newport and The Footwear Center in Keene, NH. He was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, serving as deacon for many years. He was a very active member of the church and spent many hours visiting the sick. He was a past member of the Keene Lions Club and the Jerusalem Lodge #106 Masonic Order in Keene.
During his marriage, he and his wife traveled extensively. They toured the entire United States, several countries and Islands. As an avid golfer and skier, he golfed and skied in Switzerland and England.
Survivors included his daughters; Sharon St. Amand and her husband, Mark, of Dunbarton, NH, Linda Redfield of Keene, Karen Floth and her husband, Leonard of Washington, Candace McGuire and her husband, Carl, of Oregon, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many good friends. He is predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Gertrude (Cady) Baker who died in 1992, a brother, Curtis Baker and a granddaughter, Julie Floth.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday afternoon, March 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the North Newport Cemetery, Oak Street, Newport, NH. Rev. Debbie Hill, Associate Minister at the United Church of Christ, Keene, will officiate. Family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Baker's memory to the Resident's Activity Fund at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home, 400 Mast Road, Goffstown, NH 03045.
