LaVern C. "Buster" James, 83, of Union City, passed away January 26, 2012 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. He was born January 20, 1929 in Union City to Edith James. He married Sharon Wilson on August 3, 1951 in Union City. She preceded him in death May 3, 2011. They were married 60 years.
Buster lived his entire life in Union City, graduating from Union City High School. He served in the U. S. Navy and returned to Union City and worked at Dual Coach for 18 years. He and Sharon owned the Tastee Freez in Union City for 27 years.
Buster is survived by his children: Gail Schafer, Polly (Alan) Hanson, Bryan (Alison) James, Brenda James-White, Thad James, Will (Courtney) James, grandchildren; Mia, Alana (Todd), Kelsey (Danny), Emily, Sam, Amelia, Hannah, Tyler and great grandchildren; Wyatt and Anson. Two brothers; Jack (Linda) Shepard and Jerry Shepard, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon and his mother.
Buster enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved playing games with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Putnam Funeral Home with Pastor Marty Burdick officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
