Laurier R. "Rudy" Dumas, 96, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2014 at Epoch Rehabilitation Center in Brewster, MA. He was the beloved husband of 56 years of the late Marie Victoire (Cabana). Born in New Bedford on September 20, 1917, he was the son of the late Louis and Orephise (Trahan) Dumas.
A veteran of World War II, Rudy was a Technical Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps. He flew 17 missions as crew chief and aerial Engineer gunner on B-25's over China, India and Burma in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign.
As a building contractor he built many houses in New Bedford and Acushnet. He loved to travel and to do building and remodeling projects for his family. He was proud to have "left his mark" in Texas, Connecticut, Virginia, Florida and Cape Cod. Upon his retirement in 1979, he and Marie traveled around the country before settling in Ocala, FL.
He is survived by his children, Lucille Parkinson and her husband John of Fairfield, CT, Roger Dumas and his wife Sue of Eastham; two grandchildren, Melissa Posey and her husband Bryan of Fredericksburg, VA, and Christopher Leathe and his wife Stephanie of Kissimmee, FL; three great-grandchildren, Alyson Posey, Sydney Posey, and Hailey Leathe; his brother Ronald Dumas and his wife Victoria of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Diane Dumas and his brothers Roland, Rene and Gerard Dumas.
The family would like to thank the staff at Epoch Assisted Living of Brewster, the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, and the Professional Nurse and Home Care of Cape Cod, Inc., for the excellent care he received.

His funeral will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 9 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford. Burial will be private.Visiting hours, Sunday 2-5 PM.
