Born February 27, 1927 in Cambridge, Ontario, passed away peacefully, in his 84th year at St. Andrews Terrace Nursing Home on Monday, January 24, 2011. Son of Sophie and Leonard Barber and step-father Ted Rushman (all predeceased). Beloved husband of Kathleen Barber of 59 years. Proud father of Dennis (Julia) Barber of Cambridge and Leonard (Debbie) Barber of Stratford. Brother of Harold (Sally) Barber of Goderich, sisters Yvonne (Gerald (Ray) Brown of Cambridge and Merelyn (Geoff) Shiavelis of Hamilton, step-sisters Grace Casarrio (deceased) of Guelph, Myrtle Murdoch of Kingston, Doreen Boyer of Guelph and Audrey (Arthur (Sonny) Cromwell of Cambridge. Cherished grandfather to Trina (Quinn), Larissa (David) both of Cambridge and Michael (Jenn), Kim (Jeff), Crystal (Kyle) and Kaylee all of Stratford. Great-grand- father to Eric, Alexander, Nicholas, Evelyn, Aidan, Chloe, Nolan and Claire. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law William (Bill) (Shirley) McGill, Edward (Ed) (Beryl predeceased) McGill and Marguerite (Marg) (Jack predeceased) Richardson all of Cambridge. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laverne worked at Woolley Shoes, Barrday, and retired from Canadian General Tower in 1986. Lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 121. Friends will be received at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
