Larry Sons passed away on February 24, 2014 at the age of 76. Born on December 30, 1937 to William H. and Gladys L. Sons, Larry grew up in Harvey,
Illinois, the youngest of four sons.
After graduating from Thornton High School, he went on to attend art school in both Chicago and Los Angeles before serving two years in the Army where he finished as sergeant. Being stationed in Oklahoma eventually led Larry to a professional advertising career in Dallas, beginning at Bloom Advertising, followed by The Richards Group and the establishment of his own agency Larry & Sons.He received national recognition from various advertising and design organizations and served as president of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications. He produced direct response commercials for Sports Illustrated for over thirty years. Larry also wrote a number of novels and had hoped to one day get them published. Larry was a knowledgeable sports fan, enjoyed playing competitive golf, and loved reading, drawing, and traveling with his family. He had a charm that endeared friends and acquaintances alike.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Melanie; his children, Tracy Sons and her husband Rami Naoura, Natalie Sons, Bill Sons, and Alex Sons; his grandson, Kieran Naoura; his three brothers, Ray Sons, Lester Sons, Alan Sons and their families. A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014, 12:00 noon at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Rd, Dallas, Texas.
