Leah Jane (Somers) Wanzeck made her final journey home on June 7, 2014 in Traverse City, after a brief illness. Leah struggled with dementia for many years.
Leah was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, James O'Brien Wanzeck. The first time James laid eyes on this beautiful girl, Leah, at Whitmore Lake, Michigan, they fell in love. They were married in July of 1949 in Ann Arbor, where they lived all but the last two years of their lives.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie (Wanzeck) and Don Krug of Deford, Michigan, Susan (Wanzeck) and Gus Newbury of Traverse City, Michigan, and Bridget Wanzeck of Kingsley; two grandsons, Travis Newbury of Danbury Connecticut, and Todd Newbury of Houston Texas; and one great grandson, James O'Brien Newbury of Danbury Connecticut. She is also survived by her brother, James Somers of Milan. Leah will finally be at peace and be able to join her husband and her beloved dog, Jack. She will be greatly missed.
At her request, Leah will be cremated and laid to rest in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There will be no service. Her family would like to thank the staff of TenderCare Nursing Home of Traverse City, Michigan for their loving care during her final year.
