Lee Lowery III died on Monday the 12th of November. He was twenty years old. His all too short passage through life leaves a trail marked by loyalty and kindness and brightened by friendship.
Born July 28, 1992 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Lee spent most of his life in Atlanta where he lived with his mother Allison Webb. Lee also was supported by the attention and affection of his Aunt Ashley Webb Henry.
Lee had deep roots in Atlanta, a place he loved. From kindergarten through fifth grade Lee went to Morningside Elementary, which his mother and aunt had also attended. As a child Lee attended Morningside Presbyterian Church where Reverend Coile Estes baptized him. After elementary school Lee was a student at Samuel Inman Middle School, and Grady High School where he graduated in 2010 as a Scholar Athlete. He entered Georgia State University in September 2010 as a Hope Scholar and had completed his sophomore year.
A talented athlete, Lee played soccer from kindergarten through high school where, in his senior year, he was goalie for the Grady Knights. He also enjoyed camping with his friends, water skiing, and water sports of all kinds, particularly swimming and diving for quarters with his young cousins.
Lee is survived by his mother Allison Webb of Atlanta, his father Lee Lowery, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina; Grandparents Howard and Betty Webb, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Grandparents Pamela and Charles Leonard, Lexington, North Carolina; Great grandmothers Opal Blume, Lexington, SC and Catherine Leonard, Charlotte.
Lee made friends easily and kept them close. Many of his friendships reach back to his first years in elementary school. All of his friendships were heartfelt and genuine. It is not possible to express in a few words the accomplishments of a lifetime of daily kindheartedness, but what his then three-year-old cousin Alyssa said years ago as she gazed at a picture of him comes closest, "Leelee, he's my friend."
