Leona Hueske Luna of McGregor died Saturday morning, December 1, 2012, at the age of 86. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 S. Tyler Street, McGregor with Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 W. Fifth Street, McGregor. Viewing will commence at10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Luna, a McGregor native, was born November 3, 1926, the daughter of the late William Gus and Pauline Teresa (Hackfeld) Hueske where she was a 1943 graduate of McGregor High School. She continued her education at 4-C Business College in Waco. For twenty-seven years she was a supervisor at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco. On March 30, 1996, she married Thomas Odis "T.O." Luna in McGregor. After sixteen years of marriage, he preceded her in death April 9, 2012.
The lifelong McGregor resident was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Mary Martha-Naomi Circle. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile where she served as a past Queen. She was also an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star #427 in McGregor where she held various offices and was a past Worthy Matron. Leona enjoyed gardening and was an active member of the McGregor Garden Club. She also enjoyed quilting, needle point and sewing.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Clayton Hueske, a nephew Billy Hueske, Sr. and heer husband, T.O Luna.
Survivors include two nieces, Darla Ayers of Gatesville, Lesa Gage and husband Bob of Rockwall; numerous great nieces and nephews, two great great nephews; a niece-in-law, Mary Ann Hueske; a sister-in-law, Jean Hueske; two step daughters, Sherry Luna and Bonnie Luna both of San Antonio.
