MOORE, Lera Luella (nee Lake, Barclay) wife, mother, teacher
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lera Moore in the early morning of December 29th. Born July 1, 1927, she was the loving daughter of William G. (1996) and Ida (1960) Lake and step-daughter to Hazel Lake (1995), sister to Billy Larmer (1929), Rosemary Ada (1931), Gordon David (1959). Mother to Paula Hurtubise (Daniel), Robin Taylor (Larry) and Susan McConnell (Brad); step-mother to Phillip Moore, John Moore, Bob Moore and Tom Moore (1977); grandmother to Angie McQueen (Dave), Zoé Gunn (David), Kelleigh Taylor and Katy Moore; and great-grandmother to Ellie McQueen. First marriage to James Barclay and then wife, friend and life-long devotee to Paul Moore (2000).
Following graduation from U of T in 1946, Lera worked at :Ingram & Bill Pharmaceuticals; Meteorological Section, Dept of Transport; Dept of Energy, Mines and Resources, Geography Bureau; Public Welfare Toronto; Peterborough Children's Aid Society; Lakefield District High School and twenty years at Adam Scott Collegiate (ASCVI) mainly in Geography Department. Lera and Paul, during the 60's and 70's, produced five Gilbert & Sullivan operettas at ASCVI. Retired in 1982, she and Paul gardened, read, enjoyed classical music and traveled twice a year to Panama City Beach until his death in 2000. During her final years, Lera travelled with her children and their families throughout Canada, the USA and Europe.
Friends may call at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, Ontario, Friday evening, January 4, 2013, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Maple Cemetery, Vaughan Ontario.
