Leroy E. Muenzler, Jr. (CDR U.S. Navy-Ret.) entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2011. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 29, 1935 to Genevieve and Leroy E. Muenzler, Sr. A 1953 graduate of Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Muenzler graduated from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee in 1957 and Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1960. He was commissioned as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy in 1960. Chaplain Muenzler completed many tours of duty including service in the Vietnam War and retired as a Naval Commander in 1982. Since his retirement, Mr. Muenzler has continued to be an active member in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and has been instrumental in creating new church congregations and ministering to them throughout the San Antonio area.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Andrea, his beloved wife of 47 years; his children, Debra, Cindy, Mark, and Wesley; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, Gene and wife, Chris; aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous church and family friends. Visitation will be from 7-9:00 pm on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Stone Oak Presbyterian Church, 20024 Crescent Oaks, San Antonio, Texas. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation/alzfdn.org.
