Lester "Les" R. Fullmer, 90, of Lima passed away 8:09 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born on October 9, 1922, in Weston, Ohio, to Ernest and Lulu (Mansfield) Fullmer, they preceded him in death. On June 7, 1947, he married Marcie P. Barrett and she passed away on June 7, 1994. He later married Carol Zimmerman on July 20, 1995, and she passed away on June 26, 2011.
Mr. Fullmer is survived by his five children: Richard Lee (Cheryl) Fullmer of Lima, Ronald Paul (Janet) Fullmer of The Dalles, Oregon, Stephen Barrett (Patty) Fullmer of Mesa, Arizona, Jeannine Sue (Les) Bartley of Columbus, Ohio and Anne Marie (Jeff) Zickafoose of Lima, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepchildren, David (Donna) Zimmerman of Columbus, Lisa Crawfis of Columbus and Doug (Jessie) Zimmerman of Virginia. He is survived by eleven grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia (Doug) Hillard of Bowling Green, Ohio, Lois (Ed) Effertz of Dayton. Two sisters, Dorothy Long and Helen Kline and a brother, Paul Fullmer preceded him in death.
Mr. Fullmer had been a History teacher for the Lima City Schools, first at Central High School, then at West Jr. High for twenty nine years. He was a graduate of Toledo University, He received his Master's Degree from Northwestern University. He is a World War II Army veteran who received a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat; he was a member of the 807th Tank Destroyer BN.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was an active member and served on the Administration Board and numerous committees. He had been a docent at the Allen County Historical Museum and a member of the Allen County Historical Society. He was a life member of the O.E.A., N.E.A. and Retired Teachers Association of Lima. He was a member of the Allen County Senior Citizens Association and the Mental Health Association. He was an avid bridge player, fisherman and loved to read. He was a member of the American Legion Post 96 in Lima. He was a genealogist of his family's heritage back to the Constitution.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Harris, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery where VFW Post 1275 will conduct graveside military rites.
Visitation will be Monday, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home and one hour prior to the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.
