Lillian Bishop, 59, of Old Fort, passed away after a very brief battle with leukemia on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at St. Joseph Campus in Asheville. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was born on March 23, 1951, in Burke County to the late Luther Clyde Wheelon and Crena Allison Wheelon. She graduated with a bachelor's of nursing degree at Berea College in Berea, Ky. She was employed at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville and was a nurse for 37 years. She touched the lives of hundreds of people. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband, Ronnie K. Bishop, of the home; a son, Adam Bishop, of Old Fort; a step-son, Daniel Bishop, and his wife, Brandy, of Duffield, Va.; a sister, Janice Cox, and her husband, Ronnie, of Old Fort; a special sister-in-law, Donna Bishop and her husband, Bobby; step-grandchildren, Draven, Kirkland, and Grayson, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort, with Rev. David McHale and Rev. David Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.
