Lloyd B. Allison of McGregor died Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2012, at the age of 91. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 6, 2012, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Reverend David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery. Viewing will commence at 10 A.M. Thursday with a formal visitation from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Allison was born July 8, 1920, in Osage, Texas, the son of the late John Peyton and Mary Ella Belle (Chappell) Allison and received his education at Concord and Oglesby schools. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Air Force and was discharged in 1945 as Staff Sergeant. On March 21, 1942, he married Mary La Bertha Fulps in Waco, Texas. After fifty-six years of marriage, she preceded him in death December 14, 1998. Much of his life was spent in the tire building industry having been employed by General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for thirty years.
In 1942, he joined College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor. While living in Axtell, he served sixteen years on the school board and drove a school bus for several years and became a member of First Baptist Church in 1954. In 1995 he returned to McGregor and reaffiliated with College Avenue Baptist Church.
Through the years, he enjoyed farming, fishing and being with the children of Axtell while driving the school bus.
Also preceding him in death were two sisters Loraine Spross, Estell Rosser and a brother, Doyle M. Allison.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Allison and wife Rita of McGregor, John Allison of Austin; a daughter Peggy Bass and husband Conway of Irving; a brother, Dean Allison and wife Bunny of McGregor; three sisters, Bobbie Van Liew of Grandburry, Ruby Mahan and Peggy Cunningham both of McGregor; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
