BARNES, Lloyd H – Born in 1916, Lloyd Harry Barnes passed away peacefully at the Village of Winston Park on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 at the age of 96 years. He has been reunited with his beloved wife Lillian, who predeceased him in 2001. Father of Peter Barnes (Martha) and Nancy Walpole (Guy). Proud Grandpa of Mark, Kim, Amy and Sarah and Great Grandpa of Jessie.
Lloyd was a decorated WWII veteran. Serving his country as Sergeant Major with the Highland Light Infantry, he fought at D-Day, Buron, the Scheldt and the crossing of the Rhine. He was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50. Lloyd worked at the main branch of the Bank of Montreal in Kitchener for over 30 years. He and Lillian were charter members of the congregation at St,. Andrew's Memorial Anglican Church and longtime members of the Kitchener Lawn Bowling Club.
Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, on Thursday March 21 from 6-7pm A memorial service celebrating Lloyd's life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7pm with Rev. Canon Rob Towler officiating. Reception to follow at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. For those who wish, to honour Lloyd's memory, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.
