COLUMBIA – Lois “Dode” Hoskins Eleazer, 89, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014. A family burial was held at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, where she was a long-time active member.
Mrs. Eleazer was born the daughter of the late Leander and Grace Hoskins in Hamilton, Ohio on November 26, 1924. She met her husband, Ralph, at Toddy’s in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1946, and they were married later that year in Columbia, South Carolina. Mrs. Eleazer received her BS in Nursing and MAT in Health Education at the University of South Carolina. Her care for others was evidenced by her career in teaching at Fairwold Center and the South Carolina State Hospital, as well as counseling AIDS and tuberculosis patients for the Richland County Health Department. She loved her family and was generous with her gifts and love for others. She was a lifelong learner who loved to travel. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Lois was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Eleazer, Jr. and her brother, Leroy Hoskins. She is survived by her son, Larry Eleazer (Julia); daughter, Barbara Eleazer (Louie Fields); grandchildren, Chris Eleazer, Jessica Eleazer, and Jake Fields; great-grandchildren, Caroline Eleazer, Markham Eleazer, and Landon Eleazer; and family and friends in Ohio.
