Lorraine Myrtle Jamison died peacefully in her sleep on December 24, 2012 after an extended illness. Lorraine was born to Lynn and Helene Bither on June 7, 1925 in Modesto, CA. She grew up in Modesto with her brother Donald and sister Cheryl. She attended Franklin Roosevelt and Modesto High School. Lorraine's father played a string bass in a band, which is where Lorraine found her love of Big Band music. At age 20, she met Gene Jamison and within a few months she married the love of her life. Together they raised four children, ran a furniture business, and participated in Modesto Area A's and American ExPOW group activities. Lorraine was active in the lives of her grandchildren, and even had the pleasure of getting to know ten great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Salida, and enjoyed weekly Bible studies there. Lorraine had many long-time friends in Modesto as well as new friends she made at Dale Commons, her place of residence for the final months of her life. Lorraine is survived by her brother Donald, sister Cheryl, children Lynn (Christine), Dick (Donna), Steve (Patty), and Joanne (Darrell), eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren (including TWO little girls born on her mother's birthday just last year!!!) She is preceded in death by her parents Lynn and Helene, husband Gene, and son-in-law Richard, as well as many friends she met along the way. A visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 4-8:00pm. A service in remembrance of Lorraine will be held at the First Congregational Church in Salida on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 am with a lunch reception to follow. A private graveside service for family will be held later at Lakewood Memorial Park.
