Aicher, Louis: He passed from this world on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Sunnyside, a long-term home, filled with compassion and optimism.
Louis is survived by his daughter Rosemary Aicher and son-in-law Rick Haldenby of Kitchener; son Dr. Joseph Aicher and daughter-in-law Liane Thibodeau of New Brunswick; his sister Emma Pillmayer of Austria; his grandsons Adrian and Julian Haldenby of Kitchener; Alex Robichaud of Fredericton; and his niece Gertrude Waters of New Zealand.
Born May 11, 1926 in Hollabrnun, Austria to Alois Aicher (1888-1969) and Josepfine Wagner Aicher (1889-1926). The same independent spirit and curiosity that took him hang gliding and skiing in the Alps, brought him to Canada in 1951. While he only intended to stay for a two-year adventure, he fell in love and settled in Hamilton, Ontario. His passion was cars, and with joy he worked at Johnston Motors until his retirement in 1989. He was an avid gardener and took almost as much pride in his fruits and vegetables as he did with his family. While he loved wintering in Florida, traveling was an important part of his life. He loved visiting his sisters Maria Kletter and Emmi Pillmayer in Austria and Josefini Aicher in Argentina.
A memorial mass will take place at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 148 Madison Ave S., Kitchener on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 1pm with Father Tom Vermiglio, MCCJ officiating.
In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy donations to Sunnyside Home or Mindcare, New Brunswick would be appreciated by the family.
Thank you to all the staff at Sunnyside Home for your generous and compassionate care, and also a heartfelt thanks to Victoria Place. Thank you to CCAC for finding assistance when we needed it.
