BARBU, Lucretia (born Pecican)
Passed away at Freeport Health Centre on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 after being diagnosed with a terminal condition in early November of 2012.
Lucretia was born at Carpinis in Romania on September 25, 1928 as one of four children to Dionesie and Persida Pecican. Lucretia met her husband, Trajan Barbu, shortly after the end of World War II and married in 1947. Life circumstances took Lucretia to the former Yugoslavia from 1955 through 1968 and ultimately to Canada from 1968 to the present. Lucretia lived life full of goodwill and faced sickness with courage.
Lucretia is survived by her daughter Stella Cananau, grandchild Liviu (Lilu) Cananau and his wife Stephanie Cananau, great grandchildren Luca Cananau and Livia Cananau, son-in-law Liviu Cananau Sr., brother-in-law Vasile Manoliu, cousins Sam Lacatus (Viorica), Puiu Lacatus (Adriana), and Ana Barbu, numerous nephews and nieces including Cornel Pecican (Amalia), Mircea Manoliu (Cynthia), Mihai Manoliu, and Brigite Sack (Fred). Lucretia was predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings Lazar, Cornel, and Maria.
Visitation will be held at Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, 51 Benton St., Kitchener on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, December 14, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. (Panachyda at 7pm). A Funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church, 2150 Bleams Rd., Kitchener commencing at 10:00 a.m. with Father Dumitru Ichim officiating. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
