WINSTON-SALEM- Lula Paul Cook Hobbs, 89, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born January 10, 1924 in Whiteville, NC a daughter of Linwood Paul Cook Sr. and Mamie Irene Cotten Cook. She married Walter Lee Hobbs Jr. in 1946. After 62 years of marriage he preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Helen Harrelson, and brother, Linwood Paul Cook, Jr.
Surviving are one brother, David Cotten Cook of Florida; one son, David Fitzgerald (and his wife, Sunnie Karin) Hobbs of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Wake Forest College graduating Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society. She was also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She was a school teacher, guidance counselor and educator in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System.
Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel are assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
