Mary Theresa Morrell Accardo, 98, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
Mary was born on December 19, 1910, in Maringouin, Louisiana to Frances Ragusa Morrell and Joseph Morrell. She moved to Port Arthur in 1936 after marrying Charles "Charlie" Accardo. Mary was a mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She also attended St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons, Carl Accardo of Houston and Joe Accardo and his wife Jan of Kingwood; brother, Anthony "Tony" Morrell of Houston; sister, Lena "Felicia" Morrell of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Michele York and her husband Jeff of Pismo Beach, California, Amy Daeschner and husband Tim of Lake Jackson, Texas, Julie Peacock and husband Philip of Houston, Bridget Reyes and husband Joe of Friendswood, Texas, Tory Accardo of Houston and Luke Accardo and his wife Brandi of Friendswood, Texas; great grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney and Camren York all of Pismo Beach, California, Elizabeth, Bailey, Cara and Cody Daeschner all of Lake Jackson, Texas, Holden and Connor Peacock of Houston, Clara , Joe Ruben and Jillian Reyes all of Friendswood, Kennedi Accardo also of Friendswood and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl and Joe would also like to recognize and thank Diane Drummond and the Late Deacon Vernon Drummond who were very special to their mother in the latter part of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, Charlie Accardo who passed away in 1982 and her grandson, Damian Accardo who passed away in 1993.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur with Father Don Donahugh serving as the Celebrant and Father John Distefano concelebrating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
