BELLE, MABEL CAMILLE STALNAKER Belle, Mabel Camille Stalnaker, celebrated her graduation to the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, October 18th, 2010 at the age of 97. She was born January 5th, 1913 in Birmingham, Alabama as the daughter of William Stalnaker and Edith Monroe Stalnaker. In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Clyde Thomas Belle, two sisters, Maude (Braxton) Colley, Aileen (Leon) Leigh and Brother Bill (Betty) Stalnaker as well as a niece Beverly Colley ALgood. Mabel attended Woodlawn High School; was educated at an early age in the finer points of retail through employment with Odum, Bowers; Pizitz and Melansons department stores. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church teaching numerous Sunday school classes and eventually functioned as the Superintendent of the Primary Department. She enjoyed meaningful relationships with friends and students which served her well over her lifetime. After operating as a fulltime stay at home mom/housewife for many years, she launched in to the field of hotel management and held the position as the general manager of Motel Birmingham during its greatest growth period between the 1950s through the mid 1970s. The motel association allowed her to develop lasting friendships with numerous motel guests and their families during their frequent visits to Birmingham. Known as GanGan to her children and grandchildren and Aunt Mabel to her nieces and nephews, she loved her family and enjoyed every opportunity to be together, laugh, have fun and celebrate any occasion. Working in her flower gardens, sewing, painting and interior decoration were her passions. She always had a thirst for expanding her knowledge. She is survived by her son Brad (Sandy) Belle; grandson, Jeff (Stacy) Belle; granddaughter, Julie (Darren) Gardner; great granddaughters, Alexis Moore and Kayla Moore; great grandsons, Jake Gardner and Hunter Gardner; nieces, Marilyn (Jerry) Fike, Gail Stephens, Jan (Larry) Gilreath and nephew Lamar Algood as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Mabel Belle's family wishes to thank Dr. Lawrence Hawley, Dr. Brian Larsen and Dr. Kevin Windsor for the compassionate care, respect and medical wisdom each extended to Mom over the last several years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Ridout's Roebuck Chapel from 11 AM until 12 Noon followed by a graveside service at 1 PM at Forest Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be Brother Jacky Connell of Eden Westside Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Big Oak Ranch or the charity of your choice.
