Major E. Blair was born in Andalusia, Alabama, November 16, 1929 to Agnes and John Wesley Blair. He grew up in Andalusia and excelled in athletics, leading his high school football team as a running back and linebacker to it's first and only undefeated, untied season in 1947. That year the team had a record of 10 and 0 scoring a total of 290 points, and only allowed 13 points to be scored against them without any touchdowns. Major starred in track and field setting a broad jumping record in 1948 which remained unbroken until 1984. He proudly played football one year at the University of Alabama prior to joining the United States Army. More recently he rekindled his attachment to his high school alma mater, as his football team of 1948 was inducted into the Andalusia Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also not disappointed with the University of Alabama's back to back national football championships #14 and #15.
Major was stationed at Ft. Hood in 1952 where he met the beautiful love of his life Mary Patricia Guest working as a secretary at the First National Bank of Killeen, his bride of over 58 years. While stationed at Ft. Hood, he assisted in the search and rescue efforts following the devastating 1953 Waco tornado.
Major briefly worked in financial services in Mobile, Alabama returning to Killeen in 1960 to learn the auto parts business from his father-in-law Ballard A. Guest. In 1974, he successfully opened his own auto parts store which he continued in until retiring in 1995.
His civic service included three city councilman terms, four terms as Mayor of Killeen, membership in the Exchange Club and Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient of Rotary Club. He served 25 years on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank Texas.
He loved fishing and hunting extensively and valued his time with his family, teaching each of his children and grandchildren the proper use of firearms and firearm safety. He will be remembered by many for his unselfish service to his neighbors, and beyond.
Major is survived by his wife Pat Blair, his son, Major, Jr. (Lori) Blair of Ruston, Louisiana, son Randy (Nancy) Blair of Laredo, Texas, daughter Kellie (Wayne) Bacon, seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and sister Jean Peterson of Montgomery, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents.
