NORWICH – Manuel D. Maranda, 99, died at Backus Hospital on Monday, December 03, 2012.
He was born in Norwich on April 21, 1913 to the late Domingo and Mary Elizabeth (Dale) Maranda. After school he served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. He worked for many years at American Thermos Company before becoming a pipefitter for the Submarine Base in Groton for 25 years.
Manual was married to his wife Gloria (Ruley) In Norwich on Sept. 2, 1940. She predeceased him in 1983. He was involved in the Masons, and American Legion and Union Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two daughters; Carol Maranda and Gwendolyn Blount and her husband Malcolm, and two grandchildren, Sydney and Maranda Blount.
A Calling Hour will be held Friday from 10am – 11am at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT with a Funeral Service commencing at 11am. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
