Margaret Frances Matson Reel, much loved mother, grandmother, educator and friend, passed away in La Verne, California on Sunday, December 16, 2012, just days before her 92nd birthday. She showed us all how to endure to the end with dignity and grace. Margaret was born on December 18, 1920 in Walnut Park, California to Beth and Ira Matson. A graduate of UCLA in 1942, she taught kindergarten in Long Beach and later in Pomona, where she retired in 1982. She had been a resident of Hillcrest since 1995. She was a member of the La Verne Church of the Brethren; Chapter PD, P.E.O; and Delta Kappa Gamma. Teacher and friend to many, she blessed those she knew with her radiant smile and genuine interest in their lives. Her family was the center of her world, but she took particular pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Margaret died at her home, lovingly attended to by her daughters, Cathy and Chris. She is survived by her daughters Cathryn McAllister (Dennis) and Christine Nelson; and three grandchildren, Scott Nelson (Barbara Stein); Jeffrey Nelson (Traci); and Caitlin McAllister. Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, December 21 at the La Verne Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to La Verne Church of the Brethren (2425 E Street, La Verne, CA 91750) or Hillcrest Good Samaritan Fund (2705 Mountain View Drive, La Verne, CA 91750). Arrangements under the direction of Rose Hills Company, Whittier, California. "And this that we call death, it is no more Than the opening and closing of a door-And in Your house how many rooms must be Beyond this one where we rest momently."-James Dillet Freeman.
